About Us

The Galway Veterinary Hospital opened on November 21, 1994. Sole practitioner James H. Smith, Jr., D.V.M., envisioned a full-service animal facility providing comprehensive medical and surgical care for his patients. We take our responsibility seriously as your continuously engaged partner in the health and wellness of your pet. The hospital has maintained continuous accreditation from the American Animal Hospital Association since 1998. Only approximately 14% of small animal facilities in North America can claim the distinction of accreditation, so we are very proud of our accomplishment.

We offer complete medical, laboratory, diagnostic imaging, dental, and surgical services to provide the best possible care for our highly-valued patients for pediatric through geriatric life stages. We promote responsible pet ownership, preventative health care, and health-related educational opportunities for our clients.  The Galway Veterinary Hospital proudly serves Galway and the surrounding communities of Amsterdam, Ballston Spa, Johnstown, and Gloversville, in addition to many other communities in Saratoga, Montgomery, and Fulton counties.
